About

Gloria Salazar is a co-founder of the Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos, established in 2010 alongside Lupe Costilla, Margie Villalpando, Dr. Rosina Ruiz Valle, and Ofelia T. Vasquez-Philo to preserve and celebrate Hispanic arts, culture, and heritage in San Marcos. The center is housed in the historic building that once served as San Marcos's segregation-era "Mexican School," later Bonham Elementary, which San Marcos CISD fully donated to Centro in 2022. Salazar has served as the organization's Program Coordinator, helping run youth mariachi, ballet folklórico, piano, and art classes that are largely free to the community, with scholarships available where needed. Within the ESC Research Collective, she serves as Site Coordinator for Centro's location and is a co-founder of Families Learning Together.
